At the guts of the Irish expression, céad míle fáilte, that means “a hundred thousand welcomes,” is the understanding that every individual that we meet is somebody that we must always obtain with nice care, dignity, and honor, as a result of we might additionally wish to obtain that very same care, dignity, and honor.

One of the individuals in my life that emulated this for me was my grandmother Hannah. I noticed her someday with a pot of potatoes, and there should have been about 40 in there. I requested, “How many are you expecting for dinner, Nanny?”

She mentioned, “Well, I don’t know. That’s the thing about potatoes,” and he or she winked at me. “They always seem to magically multiply in the pot” and so do guests.

So there’s this stunning understanding that my grandfather left me with, which is there’s at all times room for yet one more on the desk. It’s a fantastic, inclusive, welcoming extension of sincerity and gratitude that teaches us loads at this time.
