A First-Aid Kit of Prayers

In his e book The Church of Mercy, Pope Francis writes, “How many difficulties are present in the life of every individual, among our people, in our communities; yet as great as these may seem, God never allows us to be overwhelmed by them.”

Huh?

I like Pope Francis, however I have to respectfully disagree with that assertion. I believe I communicate for many individuals, together with myself, once I say I really feel overwhelmed on a regular basis, particularly in these lengthy days of pandemic and native and world craziness and uncertainty. Now, to be honest, Pope Francis does go on to write down that God by no means abandons us, and whereas true, it may possibly really feel like we’re on their own generally. What to do?

Well, what would you do for those who discovered your self stranded on the aspect of the highway with a flat tire and no jack within the automotive? What in case your little one had a raging fever or an entire stranger reveals up at your entrance door, drunk and looking out like he’s going to move out? Call for assist, proper? Call a tow truck, name a health care provider, name a cop.

And possibly name on the saints, too.

What follows is a small first-aid equipment of just a few prayers that I’ve used over time every time I’ve been in a precarious scenario, feeling depressed or overwhelmed, or in want of religious help. Think of the saints as our soul’s private EMTs. Since they’ve additionally lived by tough instances, they can assist us in a novel approach once we are experiencing an emergency or disaster of religion.

Our prayers ought to in the end be directed to God, because the saints know. So regardless that these holy ones can function advocates and buddies—bringing information and help to our time of want—maintain the Almighty within the forefront of your thoughts. And communicate—pray—from the center. Our heavenly helpers would need us to try this too.

Prayer of St. Francis de Sales for Inner Peace
(This is one of my favourite prayers. Whenever concern has a grip on me, or I’m experiencing self-doubt, or every time I’m in bother, this prayer brings nice consolation.)

Be not afraid. Do not look ahead to the modifications and probabilities of this life in concern; as a substitute, look to them in full hope that, as they come up, God, whose you might be, will ship you out of them. He has stored you till now, so maintain quick to his pricey hand, and he’ll lead you safely by all issues, and while you can not stand, he’ll bear you safely in his arms.

Prayer of St. Teresa of Ávila for Comfort During Stressful Times
(This is one other prayer that has helped every time I’ve felt just like the world is just too massive for me.)

Let nothing disturb you. Let nothing frighten you. All issues move. God doesn’t change. Patience achieves every part. Whoever has God lacks nothing. God alone suffices.

Prayer of St. Alphonsus Liguori for Those Suffering from Insomnia
Jesus Christ, my God, I am keen on you and thanks for all of the graces you’ve gotten given me this present day. I give you my sleep and all of the moments of this evening, and I ask you to maintain me from sin. I put myself inside your sacred aspect and below the mantle of Our Lady. Let your holy angels stand about me and maintain me in peace. And let your blessing be upon me. Amen.

Suscipe Prayer of St. Ignatius Loyola
(This is also called the “Take, Lord, Receive” prayer.)

Prayer to St. John Bosco for Any Need Including Dealing with Addiction, Assistance for a Sick Parent, Direction for a Troubled Child, or Times of Struggle at Work
In want of particular assist, I attraction with confidence to you, O St. John Bosco, for I require not solely religious graces but in addition temporal ones, and significantly [the grace you seek]. May you, who on earth had such nice devotion to Jesus within the Blessed Sacrament, and to Mary, Help of Christians, and who all the time had compassion for many who had been in struggling, receive from Jesus and from his heavenly Mother the grace I now request, and in addition a honest resignation to the need of God.
